Jazz Basics, Locrian Mode.
Okay, it's time for
the last mode within the C major scale.
It's B [SOUND] and B Locrian.
And the chord.
[MUSIC].
You get the chord if
you start on the B and
you uses these notes within the C major
scale and you stack them in thirds.
So you get B [SOUND].
D.
[SOUND].
F.
[SOUND].
And A.
[SOUND].
And this is a minor 7 flat 5 arpeggio.
[MUSIC].
So, the chord scale is called Locrian and
it's,
it has the root, B, the flat 9.
C.
[SOUND].
Minor 3rd.
[MUSIC]
D.
4th.
[MUSIC].
E.
[MUSIC]
Flat 5.
[MUSIC].
F.
Flat 6.
[MUSIC].
G.
Minor 7.
[MUSIC].
A and then B.
[MUSIC].
And you can also try this.
[MUSIC].
This scale on one string.
[MUSIC].
Like I did before.
[MUSIC].
Going through the strings.
[MUSIC].
Both ways.
[MUSIC].
Finding new fingerings,
finding something that works for you.
[MUSIC].
Also the arpeggio.
The minor 7, flat, 5.
[MUSIC].
Going through all the arpeggios.
[MUSIC].
Minor 7,
[MUSIC].
flat 5,
[MUSIC].
C major.
D minor, 7.
[MUSIC].
E minor 7
[MUSIC].
F major.
[MUSIC].
It's all the same as before,
just in a different order.
G 7, A minor 7, B minor 7, flat, 5.
[MUSIC].
And here, this note.
[MUSIC].
The C.
It's kind of an avoid note.
It sounds good in a, in a context
when you're going somewhere, but
just ending a phrase on this.
[MUSIC].
It's like, it's going like to the beat.
[MUSIC].
C to B, or.
[MUSIC]
Going up.
So think about that note to see
it's kind of an evolving note.
This one,
[MUSIC].
Flat 5, it's part of the.
The chord notes, so
it creates tension in a good way.
And this one is a bit sensitive to the G,
but it works fine.
Now, all, you'll also feel that it
might lead somewhere, somewhere else.
Going to F,
we're going up to A or up to B.
[MUSIC].
Chromatics.
[MUSIC].
And the B minor 7 flat, 5 arpeggio
is the same as a D minor 6 arpeggio.
Just starting on a different root,
because D minor 6 is an inversion of B
minor 7 flat 5, or the opposite way.
[MUSIC].
So, these notes in the arpeggio, B,
D, E no, B, D, F sorry, and A.
[MUSIC].
If you start on D, you get D.
F, A and B.
And that's a D minor 6 arpeggio.
[MUSIC].
So it's the same as B minor 7, flat, 5.
So let's try to improvise
a little bit on this.
Chord on this chord scale.
Locate and find them.
Usable tools, some intervals and
some nice, triads to use.
Okay.
Here we go.
[MUSIC].
D minor.
[MUSIC].
Minor 7, E minor 7.
[MUSIC].
F major 7.
[MUSIC].
G.
[MUSIC].
A minor.
[MUSIC].
B minor 7, flat 5.
[MUSIC].
G, try it.
[MUSIC].
F.
[MUSIC].
Chromatics.
[MUSIC].
Intervals.
[MUSIC].
[MUSIC].
