Commissions with Justin BUA

COMMISSIONS???

Lately I have been doing a lot of commissions and quite honestly I have been having a lot of fun taking peoples' visions and realizing them through my eyes.

However this last commission was a bit challenging as I was asked to paint an original that "looked" like my Bass Player that I did a few years back. I told my client, "Why not buy an embellished painting of my bass player?" But my client insisted that he have an ORIGINAL BUA.

Hmmmm... OK well... I was looking at my blank canvas thinking I already painted this once and if I do this again I could potentially die of boredom or at the very least fall asleep at the wheel of my paint brush. But I had that voice in the back of my head, which is really Picasso's voice and his words, "A lazy artist has never produced a great piece of work." (Every artist has a voice in their head, some are their mother's some their wives, friends etc... Mine is Picasso himself).

That being said I rolled up my sleeves and put my nose to the grindstone. As I got lost into the reds of the painting I started to think what if I took his hat off and gave the main character an afro, then change the shape of his bass up loosen up on the figures. I started to paint way more impressionistically and low and behold I was having FUN! I mean in some ways I had more fun painting this than some of my other original works. I realized that you never know if something mundane and banal could actually turn into an exciting and electric experience.

Never be bored. Always stay working. Or as the voice in my head says... "come on tell them Picasso, 'Inspiration exists, but it has to find us working.' "

Now who wants a commission?

My latest commission entitled, "City of Love". I don't usually get asked to do a husband and wife embracing but I really had fun painting this and making it into a BUAesque composition.
