when we do blind contour, we're not
looking at our paper whatsoever.
So modified contour is, we're really
looking at our
paper only when we need to, maybe only
like 90% of the time.
So, we're trying to capture the truthful
spirit of the pose, and
by doing that we're not going to look at
the paper, we're going to try to avoid it.
But it's not like blind contour where we
can never look at the paper whatsoever.
So for this, you can use tennis shoes,
you can use a crumpled piece of paper, you
can use your hand.
I'm gonna use my hand right now because
it's easy for me to pose and I'm here and
what you're really gonna do is just try to
slow down, let your eyes record,
your hand at the same speed as you are
So your eyes and your hand are working in
They're working together.
So as your eyes are recording it, your
hand is moving.
So you wanna really just feel the form,
feel the form, feel the form.
Draw over it like ants marching over your
As my pencil's moving, I have to almost
feel like there's actually
ants marching along and that's actually
my, my pen that's marching along.
So we're gonna do this.
I would recommend that you do it, and you
do it really slow for 20 minutes.
I'm not gonna do it for 20 minutes.
I'm gonna do the fast version.
But this will just give you an idea of
something you could do at home and
this is going to be a great exercise for
It's gonna make you better.
The more modified and blind contour
drawings, the better you're going to get.
That's just the way it is.
You're going to start seeing the space and
relationships of nature and
you're just going to realize in your other
drawing you're, you're getting better.
So this is partly why if you do this a
lot, you will get better fast.
It's impossible not to.
So just remember, slow peaceful

That's a it's a very quick modified
but you could see that you know, just by
it kind of helps you get into that empty
spaces of things.
And you know, I really like doing blind
contour better because that,
that really taps into something that I'm
not able to access all the time when I'm
painting and I'm drawing from life or even
out of my imagination.
But I really feel like this is still a
very good exercise for you to kinda
tune in and realize that sometimes when
you feel and
you don't see what you're drawing but you
experience the feeling, it's actually more
realistic than when you're kinda looking
back and forth and experiencing it.
Try this, you will get better.
