One, two, three, four.
[MUSIC]
All right, this phrase is such a cool
pentatonic shuffle.
And we use a lot of pinky in this one.
If you look at the first phrase.
[MUSIC]
That's a good place for the pinky.
[MUSIC]
And
the thing I want to concentrate on this
one is that I'm still
keeping that strumming rhythm going with
my right hand.
And I might even go back to some of my
strumming way of holding the pick.
Cuz I, I, I can really I can really feel
that strum that way.
[MUSIC]
Now that's.
We were talking about it before but just
to refresh.
That's using the two fingers and
your thumb as opposed to the side of your
finger.
So, that I use more for single notes, for
the strumming technique,
I tend to use the two fingers.
It gives me a little more bounce [NOISE]
somehow.
So, let's listen to these notes.
Three, four.
[MUSIC]
Bedoo du bedoo du bedoop bup bedoo bup,
and let's concentrate where the pinky
comes in.
[MUSIC]
So that's a big, a big move.
[MUSIC]
Because it comes before it.
[MUSIC]
We're playing a note on the D string,
[SOUND] to that note on the low E.
So let's figure out where the strokes are.
[MUSIC]
All right.
So we're going.
[MUSIC]
That's the point I want to loop.
I really wanna focus in on that, on those
three notes.
And that's gonna be, down, up, down.
[MUSIC]
Let's go, one, two, three.
[MUSIC]
Just loop it.
[MUSIC]
Down, up, down.
Just like that.
[MUSIC]
Using a lot of muting with our left hand
so we don't get.
[MUSIC]
You know we're trying to
control the chaos.
We want one note at a time.
[MUSIC]
One, two, three.
[MUSIC]
Slow it down.
[MUSIC]
Nice notes.
[MUSIC]
Everything is good.
[MUSIC]
If we want to be stylish,
bend that third up just a little bit.
[MUSIC]
There we go.
[MUSIC]
That makes me smile.
[MUSIC]
That just sounds.
[MUSIC]
Sounds so cool.
All right, let's put it in context.
One, two, three, four.
[MUSIC]
Now the beginning phrase.
[MUSIC]
This also has a challenging thing for
your left hand.
Because we're going to go from [SOUND]
that note on the D string,
to the same finger, [SOUND] on the next,
on the next string.
[MUSIC]
Like that.
[MUSIC]
Now let's
figure out what those strokes are.
[MUSIC]
Okay, so this is an up [SOUND], and
a down [SOUND].
And I wanna have them in that shuffly
feel.
Like one, two, three four.
[MUSIC]
Just gonna do it like that [SOUND] two,
three, four, [SOUND] that sounds good,
[SOUND] kind of a strumming.
[MUSIC]
One, two, three, four.
[MUSIC]
Nice clean notes, now we can go.
[MUSIC]
And it's doing that shuffly strum.
Two, three, four.
[MUSIC]
All right you got the pieces now.
[MUSIC]
And the last part.
[MUSIC]
So
we're really getting a lot of use out of
our pinky there.
[MUSIC]
All right.
Now as an extra bonus challenge I wanna
try doing, doing it an octave higher.
[MUSIC]
Now this is where I have to find
a balance between sorta beating away on it
and, and having a nice big strum.
And not having that chaos, you know.
[MUSIC]
You know, I don't want a mess, so
I gotta find that balance, you know.
If I, if I stay really tight on it.
[MUSIC]
That's certainly fine,
that's acceptable, but if I can get a
little bit the strum.
[MUSIC]
It sorta feels nice to have that.
That bigger motion too.
So it's just a, a matter of, of like,
exploring the edges.
You know, doing it super clean.
[MUSIC]
It's almost almost more difficult for
me to figure out where the up strokes and
down strokes are when I do it with small
motions.
Because the up, this strumming motion
sorta puts me in the groove.
It gets me right in the groove of that,
that flowing rhythm grid.
[MUSIC]
If my hand's doing this I,
I always know what the stroke is.
Cuz it's always keeping that groove going.
[MUSIC]
I just have to make sure to mute it.
[MUSIC]
All right there we go.
We nailed it.
Now let's put the two together.
One, two, three, four.
[MUSIC]
I'm gonna slow this down cuz this is new.
So one, two, three, four.
[MUSIC]
And an octave higher.
[MUSIC]
I like it.
[MUSIC]
And I'm keeping that, that,
that strum going.
That downstroke that's driving it.
[MUSIC]
All right.
So I love the feel of that.
One more time, a little sped up?
A one, a two, a one, two, three, four.
[MUSIC]
