Congrats to our IBMA Nominees & Bluegrass All-Stars

bryan sutton imba 2014

ArtistWorks would like to congratulate Bryan Sutton for taking home his 8th IBMA Award for Guitar Player of the Year!

We are thrilled by Bryan's accomplishments as an artist and are proud to have him teaching flatpicking guitar to students around the world alongside the other Academy of Bluegrass all-stars: Mike Marshall, Missy Raines, Darol Anger, Andy Hall, and the incomparable Tony Trischka.

So much of what we do is spent focusing on the instruction that the Academy of Bluegrass artists are providing here -- and that's obviously our mission, but in the spirit of the now concluded 2014 IBMA awards, we'd like to focus for just a moment on the impressive careers of these amazing musicians. We're very fortunate to have them all here.

Bryan Sutton has won eight IBMA Awards for Guitar Player of the Year, and he also played guitar on the 2006 IBMA Album of the Year, Celebration of Life: Musicians Against Childhood Cancer. In 2007 he won a Grammy Award for his guitar duet with Doc Watson on the classic bluegrass song "Whiskey Before Breakfast."

Tony Trischka, who was a presenter at the 2014 IBMA Award Show, has four IBMA awards to his name including one for Banjo Player of the Year (2007); two for his Double Banjo Bluegrass Spectacular album (2001), which was also nominated for a Grammy; one for Instrumental Recorded Performance of the Year for Knee-Deep in Bluegrass: The AcuTab Sessions; and he also played on the 1997 Album of the Year True Life Blues - The Songs of Bill Monroe. Tony is a member of the bluegrass supergroup Pyschograss along with Darol Anger, Mike Marshall, Todd Phillips, and David Grier. He also co-produced the documentary "Give Me the Banjo" in 2011 and served as Musical Director.

Andy Hall, member of the Infamous Stringdusters, was nominated for Dobro Player the Year for 2014, and also won an IBMA Award in 2008 for Instrumental Album of the Year for his self-produced debut, Sound of the Slide Guitar.

Mike Marshall is featured on the 1997 IBMA Album of the Year / Recorded Event of the Year, True Life Blues - The Songs of Bill Monroe. He also plays in the supergroup Pyschograss and is a co-founder of the Mandolin Symposium with David Grisman.

Missy Raines is a 2014 IBMA presenter and nominee, and has 7 IBMA Awards for Bass Player of the Year. She also played bass on the 2001 Recorded Event of the Year - Follow Me Back to the Fold: A Tribute to Women in Bluegrass. Her current band Missy Raines and the New Hip crosses genres to explore bluegrass, jazz, pop, and funk.

Darol Anger has been a member of a number of diverse groups throughout the years including: The Furies, Pyschograss, The Old-Time Kozmik Trio, Turtle Island String Quartet, Republic of Strings, e-and'a, and the David Grisman Quintet. He also frequently collaborates with Mike Marshall, Scott Law, and Emy Phelps among others. He was the winner of the Frets Magazine Readers' Poll for Best Jazz Violinist for four years running and is a Contributing Editor for Strings magazine.

It is an honor to be working with such incredible musicians, each dedicated to preserving the legacy of bluegrass as well as exploring new boundaries within their respective instruments. Find out more about what we're doing with teaching bluegrass online at www.artistworks.com/bluegrass.
