Essential to playing proper trumpet articulation and playing fast, is knowing what trumpet fingering you’ll use for which passages, says David Bilger, Principal Trumpet for the Philadelphia Orchestra.

David shares his tricks of the trumpet trade in this video where he gives advice for difficult passages, trills and slurs. David explains that some challenging trumpet notes may require alternate trumpet fingering, like going from C to C# or A to G#. Using the right combination of valves can effect trumpet intonation and allow your playing to be more nimble.

David wakes up his fingers in a Herbert L. Clark exercise to warm-up every day which is a good idea for all trumpet players trying to advance their skill and dexterity.
