Each ArtistWorks guitar school is run by a single master teacher — from Bryan Sutton in bluegrass to Paul Gilbert in rock and Jason Vieaux in classical. When you join a school you get that teacher's full library of video lessons, their structured curriculum and, as a Premium subscriber at schools that offer it, personal video feedback on your own playing.

Less than one private lesson. A single ArtistWorks membership gives you unlimited access to your chosen school, every video lesson in it, to watch and practice as often as you like — and Premium plans add Video Exchange® with your teacher at schools that offer it. Plans are billed monthly or annually, and every new student starts with a 7-day free trial.

Yes. Every school starts with the fundamentals — holding the guitar, tuning, and forming your first chords — and schools like David Butler's Beginner's Guide to Acoustic Guitar and Kevin Barry's Beginner's Guide to Rock Guitar are built specifically for first-timers. Sore fingertips are normal for the first couple of weeks and fade as calluses form.

Most students can switch between a handful of open chords and strum simple songs within one to two months. Playing comfortably with others, including barre chords and basic lead lines, typically takes six months to a year. Short daily practice sessions of 15–30 minutes beat long, occasional ones.

Start on the guitar that matches the music you want to play. Acoustic suits folk, bluegrass, Americana and fingerstyle; electric suits rock and blues, and its lighter strings are easier on beginners' fingers. Chord shapes and scales are identical on both, so your skills transfer either way.

No. Most lessons use tablature and chord diagrams alongside close-up video of both hands, so you can see exactly what to play. Classical and jazz schools introduce standard notation as part of the path, but you can begin without it.

Yes — you can subscribe to as many schools as you like. With nearly 20 guitar schools across bluegrass, blues, rock, jazz, classical, fingerstyle, flamenco and country, many students pair a core style with a second one. Each school's curriculum is entirely its own, and every school includes a 7-day free trial, so you can look inside before you commit.
