Each ArtistWorks fiddle school is run by a single master teacher — Darol Anger, Brittany Haas or Alex Hargreaves. When you join a school you get that teacher's full library of video lessons, their structured curriculum and, as a Premium subscriber at schools that offer it, personal video feedback on your own playing.

Less than one private lesson. A single ArtistWorks membership gives you unlimited access to your chosen fiddle school, every video lesson in it, to watch and practice as often as you like — and Premium plans add Video Exchange® with your teacher at schools that offer it. Plans are billed monthly or annually, and every new student starts with a 7-day free trial.

Yes. Every school begins with the basics — holding the fiddle and bow, tuning, and drawing a clean sound on open strings — before moving to simple tunes. The fiddle has no frets, so early practice focuses on intonation, and close-up video makes that much easier.

Expect a few weeks before your tone feels steady and a few months before simple tunes like Cripple Creek or Angeline the Baker feel comfortable. Joining a slow jam is a realistic goal within the first year of regular daily practice.

None — it's the same instrument. "Fiddle" describes the style: folk traditions like bluegrass, old-time, Celtic and Texas fiddling, usually learned by ear. Some fiddlers use a flatter bridge for easier double stops, but any violin can be played as a fiddle.

No. Fiddle is traditionally learned by ear, and the lessons teach tunes phrase by phrase with close-up video as support. Reading music is useful, not required.

Yes — you can subscribe to as many schools as you like. Darol Anger, Brittany Haas and Alex Hargreaves each teach their own curriculum and lesson library, and their approaches to bluegrass and old-time fiddle complement each other. Every school includes a 7-day free trial, so you can look inside any fiddle school before you commit.
