Hey everybody! Well, it's fnally a real Winter here in Chicago with snow, ice, people falling and hurting themselves, etc. It's one of the things that makes Chicago the Blues Capital of the World.

I wrote a short summary of my 2015. If any of you has the time or desire to read it, here it is. I left out some things because I got tired of typing, but I put in most of the highlights. I feel blessed to have this great harmonica community here at Artist Works. One of the things that makes me really happy is meeting members of the school as I travel around the world playing. I hope to meet more of you in 2016. http://www.levyland.com/news/

"He's beyond influential...You know, there's the before and after Howard, in terms of the diatonic harmonica." - Adam Gussow, editor of Modern Blues Harmonica

There is a revolution happening in the world of harmonica, and it’s all because of Howard Levy. For Howard’s online students at ArtistWorks this is nothing new, but this piece is a great introduction for anyone not familiar with how he single-handedly discovered the overblow technique back in the 70s, which allows him to play diatonic harmonica like a chromatic instrument. With this incredible innovation, he has permanently altered the history of this unique instrument and influenced countless players for years to come.

Also featured are Brendan Power, Adam Gussow, and two of Howard's students from ArtistWorks! Listen on the player above or click here to read more from NPR

Thank you all for making my school a vibrant place full of great music, interaction and learning. As I eat too much turkey today I will think of all of you and I will play some harmonica for everyone at the table- Fox and her extended family. I hope to see some of you at upcoming gigs, and please send more videos. I am about to answer the last 3 that were sent in...

One thing- I just noticed today that I can't respond to your emails. I have notified the Artist Works staff and I hope that they can figure it out soon.

All the best to all,

Howard

“I feel it’s my obligation, since I love to play all this music, to also teach it.” - Howard Levy

Originating in Europe and later spreading around the world, the harmonica is truly a chameleon of genres. Howard Levy has mastered them all. His curriculum includes classic Blues and Rock styles of course, but also less known world harmonica styles like Jazz, Classical, Indian, Middle Eastern, Folk, Bluegrass, Latin, & more.

Sometimes I am lucky to be invited to a special event. This is one of those times. As a musician, I am very excited to be part of www.cymaticsconference.com in Atlanta. I will be playing and discussing some mathematical approaches that I have to playing and understanding music. This might lead to a documentary film or a DVD/Book. Some of the events are open to the public- maybe I'll see some of you there.

Hey everyone- I was just in Myrtle Beach, SC playing at Coasta Carolina U. with my good friend bassist Steve Bailey, drummer Quentin Baxter, and others, and premiered my Suite for Harmonica and Big Band with the University Big Band led by Dr. Michael White. This was a thrill and I hope to record it. However, I have been having a problem uploading video responses- we are working on it and hope that by today or tomorrow it will be resolved.

GOOD NEWS- UPLOAD PROBLEM FIXED- am uploading responses and will film more!

This evening I fly to Stuttgart...I play a private concert Oct. 28 in Ulm, a solo concert Oct. 30 in Budapest, and Oct. 31 a duo concert with a great pipe organist in Klingenthal. All info is on my facebook pages.

Wishing you all the best, Howard.
