Jazz Advanced, Cluster Voicings.
It's time for me to show a couple
of really nice modern sound and
voicings called Cluster Voicings I
call them that.
With cluster I mean that they,
in within these voices you have
at least one either a whole step,
or interval.
Or, a half step interval.
So, so, you will hear that,
this kind of sound.
You know you would hear.
[SOUND] or [SOUND] or even
So, let's harmonize C major scale
this way.
First interval should
be a second interval.
Either a whole step or half,
half step, depending on,
on of course the chord scale.
Now, we're in C major.
So, if we have C here,
this is a three note chord.
So, I have C here.
A whole,
a second interval would be
diatonically would be a D.
And from that.
You gonna go up a 6th and
then it depends of course what kind
of 6 it will be, but here we're.
Still we're doing it diatonically so.
So it would be this interval, from D.
To B.
'Cause B is the 7th of C major.
And, from this note the D.
You're gonna find the 6th.
Up, and that will be
So, we have our three note voicing here.
C, D, and root,
9th, major 7th.
And, when
you have these whole step or half step
intervals within the chord, sounds good.
Do a little bit of this, moving the guitar
neck, and making it ring even more.
Next one, going from D,
would be like a D minor one.
D, E
And, C.
Add that whole step here.
And then, the.
Sixth interval diatonically.
Next one would be kind of an E minor.
'Cause here you have.
Had the root, the 9th, the minor 7th.
Here we have the root.
The flat 9, back to the Phrygian scale.
And, the minor 7th, so.
And then, for the F major.
They're the same thing.
That would be a whole step,
and then a 6th.
From C to G to C.
Next, G7 will be G, and A, and then F.
Root 9th and 7th.
Next one will be
A minor 7th with A.
And, the 9th.
And, the minor 7th.
Next one will be B.
So, the, the root, flat 9, and.
And, the minor 7th.
The A.
So, these chords sound like this.
And then,
you can do
another thing,
you can start with a.
A 6th interval.
Diatonically [INAUDIBLE]
So, then you have C, A.
And then, you add whole step or
a half a step.
According to what words
be in the chord scale.
A C major so.
And, you have B, so.
C, A, B.
C, A, B.
Root 6th and major 7th.
Do the same thing here.
Next chord.
and C.
Root 6th then minor 7th.
Then, from E,
root, flat 6,
and minor 7.
From F we'll have root,
6th and major 7th.
From G, root, 6th and dominant 7th.
And from A.
We'll have A.
We have minor 6th F and 7th G.
And so, and then.
A flat 6.
And, A.
7th, minor 7th.
And back,
And then,
you can put these voicings
together actually.
These two, and, and
make an even fatter sounding chord.
Then we'll have
like that.
C, D
Now, it sounds even more cluster like
because we have
two whole step intervals here.
Next one will be this.
D E.
B and C.
Next one will be this.
E, F, C.
Next one will F.
D and E.
Now, G.
A, E and F.
Next one will be A.
[SOUND] And.
[SOUND] Next one would be A,
sorry, B, F, and G, like that.
Next one is B, C, G.
And A.
And then, we back.
So, these are really
interesting sounding,
these Cluster Voicings.
So, check them out and I'm looking
forward to hearing you apply them.
Maybe not all, maybe not all the time.
But, it's nice, at times,
to put them in there together
with the more traditional voices.
