Here is a song that I wrote
called the Dead Cedar Waltz.
It's on my Redwing record.
And it's a really pretty song in waltz
time, which we've been talking about in
some of the lessons here, so I though I'd
show it to you.
I'll have the music for
you, and I'll play it for you slowed down
so you can see what's going on.
First off, I'll just give a little
It's in the key of D minor.
[SOUND] And so, not only am I gonna show
you how it's played and
give you the music, but I want us to get
the chords together as well.
So just as an overview, some of the chords
involved are gonna be D minor,
[SOUND] G minor, [SOUND] A major, [SOUND]
and D minor [SOUND].
There's also a B flat,
[SOUND] a C, [SOUND] and an F [SOUND].
So the B flat being on the third fret, C's
on the fifth, F on the tenth.
There's one other tricky chord and [SOUND]
it's basically like a B diminished chord.
And so here's your, our B flat diminish.
So here's the B flat.
B flat diminish sounds like this.
[SOUND] So the way I play it is with a
A reverse slant.
[SOUND] That's the chord right there.
It's a B flat on the lowest string, third
And then second fret of the fourth string.
Those are the notes.
And what this is doing, is it's taking you
from a B flat,
[SOUND] B flat diminished, [SOUND] A,
[SOUND] and then D minor again.
[SOUND] So those are some of the chords
[COUGH] The song starts off with an out of
time melody part that's in D minor.
Once that's played,
the timing begins, three-quarter time and
I'll play the song, so.
I'll start off with this beginning intro
We'll turn the metronome on and then I'll
play the song once through.
So that's the melody to the Dead Cedar
Now I'd like to go over the chords a
little bit with you.
So what we'll do is.
I will play along to the metronome and
this time I'm just going to do
the rhythm and the chords, so you can hear
what the chords sound like.
So we'll get the metronome started and
I'll go ahead and
play the chords once through.
[SOUND] One, two, three, two, two, three.
So that gives you a sense of the chord
Now I'll have the chords and the melody
written out for you so
you can refer to them.
We're also gonna have some backing tracks
that you'll be able to play along to.
