the fiddle has a unique ability to play
smoothly and with a lot of sustain.
that's why we're gonna start working on.
The other thing to play separate notes.
Make it sound [LAUGH] like there isn't
There's so many things that you can do
with this instrument.
So, let's do a little bit of separated
Now we can do them as separate bows.
Let's play a B note on the A string just,
just to give our left hand something to
Obviously, I'll start with my unclenched
Play that B note.
Okay, so we're going to play.
We're going to take our first finger and
our thumb and we're going to take all our
other fingers away from the bow.
We're just going to lift them up like
The bow is hitting right there.
We're gonna take our thumb and slightly
pinch upward and
our first finger and sort of just press
downward like that.
So it's like a little pinch action.
We're going to push the stick of the bow
down on the hair like that.
So it looks, looks like a really little,
wide mouth that's talking to you.
So this is kinda what we're doing.
We're actually talking with the bow here.
We're gonna use.
That little pinch action to sort of create
a consonant sound.
Ps and Ks.
So we're just gonna go a little bit at a
We're gonna go [SOUND] [SOUND].
Let's do five downs.
All in a row.
And then five ups.
And then ups again.
So let's turn those into separate bows.
So we're just, slight pinch at the
beginning of each note.
What we want, let's take a little faster
Let's do two downs and two ups.
That might be good.
Okay, so we do two downs, two ups.
Now in classical mu, violins it's called
Because you're detaching the notes from
But the bow it stays on the strings.
You can see.
Now there's a lot of ways we can
use this little pinching technique.
We can use it.
Let's try one down bow and three ups.
Still using the B note.
This is gonna be a little tricky just to
get these pinches lined up with the bow.
And it'll take a while.
Keep it slow.
Go as slow as you need to in order to get
that feeling like those little
This is a huge technique in bluegrass for
kicking off tunes.
things like that, so it's definitely gonna
come in handy for that.
So we really wanna get, get you on that
Just keep, practice that for about.
As long as you can stand it or as, until
you lose interest.
