So the next one I'd like to play for
you is a Bach tune called
Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring.
And it goes like this.
[MUSIC]
It's in
a nine,
eight.
One, two, three, two, two,
three, three, two, three.
[SOUND] It's like three
with three triplets.
So I harmonized that.
[MUSIC]
And this one I kinda jump, and
you could see the harmonica,
kinda moving in and out of my mouth.
[MUSIC]
So
I could
do it
either.
[MUSIC]
Or
[MUSIC]
Keeping the left side of my mouth smooth.
[MUSIC]
There's a whole lot going on,
so I'm hearing the left
hand part as a distinct
counter melody,
I'm seeing it on the piano and
hearing it.
[MUSIC]
So the right side of my mouth is going.
[MUSIC]
Five, four, four draw, five blow.
[MUSIC]
And the left side of my mouth is going.
[MUSIC]
And
that's contrary
motion.
[MUSIC]
So I got an interval of a sixth,
an octave.
[MUSIC]
And a tenth.
So,that if I were to do it on the piano,
it would look like this.
[MUSIC]
Which is what I'm seeing in my
[MUSIC]
And then I have a C chord, and
I can't harmonize that.
I can't play two draw band
down all the way, and
E which is three draw band down,
two-half steps.
I can't bend that down at the same time,
so I have to do separate notes.
And then I do thirds adjacent holes, and
then four which is I'm
switching the interval
of a sixth and a fifth from three blow and
five blow to two draw and four draw.
[MUSIC]
And then that sixth, two and four blow,
and then.
[MUSIC]
Which is one and two draw, and three and
four blow, and three and four draw,
I mean two and three draw.
And then the finishing arpeggio.
[MUSIC]
And that's
just the first part of it.
[MUSIC]
[MUSIC]
And the second part has
a melody that goes.
[MUSIC]
Back to
the beginning.
So when I keep the rhythmic flowing
triplet part going on the left side
of my mouth for the slow melody,
this sounds really beautiful.
This goes.
[MUSIC]
So and
this is actually,
really not that hard.
So it's
[MUSIC]
So every time I draw on the top,
obviously, I'm drawing on the bottom.
I just keep my mouth moving,
getting wider and narrower.
So, it's between one and five.
[MUSIC]
All the way up to four and five.
[MUSIC]
Now to two and five, and then one and
five draw, and
the bottom of mouth goes one, two, three.
[MUSIC]
And then it's two and six.
[MUSIC]
That's
what's going
on in the left hand,
like this.
[MUSIC]
[LAUGH]
[MUSIC]
That's kind of effective
to break it up there.
[MUSIC]
So I'm just hitting two and three draw,
little bend for E.
[MUSIC]
And then I hold five draw.
[MUSIC]
And I go back to the beginning.
[MUSIC]
The important thing to remember
when you're doing this is,
since your tongue is
all over the harmonica
if you do this while you're looking down,
lost in thought, you're gonna be
drooling into the harmonica and
the reeds are gonna crap out on you.
You're gonna have to knock them out.
