So, you see that sometimes I played
one lick in G and another lick in F.
And then, sometimes, I would hold
note the long note over the G, and
then play a G blues lick that
went really well over the F.
There's a lot of experimenting.
And that's one of the great
things about playing jazz and
improvising over chord changes is that
you'll never get tired of doing it.
Because every time you play,
you'll just think of something new if you
keep an open mind, and you listen
to the guys you're playing with.
The drummer, the base player,
the pianist, guitarist, the horn players.
Everybody's always doing stuff that's a
little new, and it's also conversational.
So, someone will do something, and someone
else will go he'll do something else.
And then, that'll make someone
else do something else.
You, as the harmonica player,
you'll get a different idea to play
something as a result of this
conversational aspect of the band.
And if you're playing with good musicians,
you'll throw out an idea to one of them,
and they'll toss it back to you, and it'll
make you play something different and
you'll make them play
things that are different.
So, now, I'm gonna do the Killer Joe
thing on a G harmonica.
Just see what happens.
