News just in: Leo Brouwer will be coming to the 2018 GFA convention in Louisville, Kentucky in June to accept the GFA Hall of Fame Artistic Achievement Award and to give a masterclass.

Phil N is absolutely right...no video compares to a live JV performance. The videos are good, but a very pale version of the live performance. The first time I heard JV live, I was stunned.

Videos of Jason’s solo performances are no comparison to the extraordinary experience of attending his live performance. I’ve seen Jason perform twice in a small venue in Beacon NY. The skill, the sound and the emotion he brings to the stage is nothing less that astonishing. If you have the chance to attend one of Jason’s live solo concerts, book your ticket early. He is not to be missed!

Peter Erskine, our Jazz Drums instructor, is live on Facebook now: https://www.facebook.com/ArtistWorks/videos/1726087400745307/

Newest lesson on "tonebase.co" site is Tango en Skai.

Here's a good story about a school that was doing terribly until they started...gasp!...a compulsory music program! http://bit.ly/2klyrou

... and listen to Tango en Skai on Jason's CD ('Play') :-)

The 'Tango En Skai' submission go me interested in the tune. I found an interesting version of it as a guitar duet . . . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZdPMVgSrvs

Tune in in 30 MINUTES! Ask a question for the chance to win 3 free months. ArtistWorks live with Richard Amoroso: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtVk-jovaL4

Ralph DBS...I’m glad you are happy with the shorter scale . I’m thinking of upgrading to Kenny Hill Player 628 mm

thanks DonBurden

Phil N and Paul R . . . . I purchased a 628mm Kenny Hill New World cedar (2010) through Elderly Instruments and really like it a lot. The shorter length is perfect - am surprised how much difference it makes! Love the tone, but as important is the fact that I can reach some things now that I just couldn't before. Now, what to do with my 1972 Hernandis that I've had 40+ years? :)

Happy New Year to everyone! I hope your 2018 is rockin' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q57ffCXpodo

Vallen: It's up to you what you want to perform in your video exchange. It could be a piece from an ArtistWorks lesson, or it could be something else you are currently working on.

happy new year and i dont really understand how the video exchange works. do i have to send a video after every lesson or what?

online practice charts?

Hi Jason and everybody else here, I am new here, just uploaded my first video (Villa Lobos Prelude 3), and I wish you a Merry Christmas! Robert (Germany)

Thanks Don , I did all that but I found the scores elswhere on the web

Most scores are under "Study Materials". Then select "Written Materials", then click the "+" on the right for "Basic" or "Intermediate" or "Advanced" scores. Several more are found under "Additional Materials", such as the important Guiliani 120 studies.

Hi again , I see that some of the lessons don't come with scores how does one proceed Thanks for any feedback

Hi Im at the basic lesson at sanz espanoleta and fuhrmann's tanz lessons but cannot find the notes over here

Paul R, I've built many short and long scale guitars (Over 350) There is no difference in tone, sustain or intonation. It all has to do with what the luthier does with the design. I've built several short scale guitars for George Sakellariou. The latest one is 634. The biggest mistake luthiers make is that they make the string spacing and nut width too narrow with short scale guitars. When set up properly they are great guitars. You can hear George playing one of my short scale model guitars on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GquXpmgYQ6Y

Estimating the number of Video Exchanges here, it appears the number recently surpassed 2,500!

Registration is open for the next GFA convention in Louisville, Kentucky, June 18-23, 2018. http://www.guitarfoundation.org/?page=2018ConvMain

Hey there, I just rejoined after learning some beginning jazz and I'm looking to improve my classical playing.

Hi Jim Turner, welcome to Artist Works. The Classical Guitar course does require the students to be proficient in reading music. There are no tabs in the written materials, only standard notation. To brush up on the basics we offer a free Music Theory and Acoustic Guitar 101 school to all of our students.

Hello, i am a new student. my question-must i be proficient in reading music before i can take the lessons? also, should i learn notes before submitting a placement video?

Thanks, I can see the menu now. SHIFT or CTRL refresh didn't work, but then tried Developer Tools, then check "Disable cache" and refreshed and that worked.

HelloDonBurden, it takes a hard browser refresh to pull in the new menu. You can try SHIFT+clicking refresh or CTRL+refresh in your browser to see the new navigation.

New top menu: I'm seeing this new menu using IE browser; but using Chrome, there is a blank area where the menu should be.

Thanks!

Hey Paul R...the short answer to all tour questions is no. The issue is how much do you want to spend? Check out https://youtu.be/xQFOE9ekr1Q. This is a well prepared review. I bought the cedar top version and use medium tension string. I bought from guitar center. If you don’t like it you can return it within 3o days. .

Hi Phil N- I'm curious if you've noticed any difference in tone, sustain, or intonation and tuning when you went to a shorter scale guitar. I've considered a shorter scale because of older hands, past injuries, and short fingers, but I've not played any to try them. What is your experience?

Jason- I really enjoyed your Steely Dan medley. One of my all time favorite groups!

Here is something fun and kind of different:
