Introduction To The Martin Taylor Guitar Academy
This "introduction" block sets the stage for what is to follow. Put down your guitar, and enjoy learning about Martin's background, influences, and philosophy about music and the guitar. If you are anxious to get going, you can skip ahead to the "Underlying Concepts" block or even "Learn By Playing Tunes" block. Just be sure to get back and watch these important videos!
Underlying Concepts
The "Underlying Concepts" block starts very basic and progressively lays down the foundation for Martin's approach to fingerstyle guitar. Even if you are already an advanced guitarist, Martin asks that you go through all of these lessons. This block ends with Martin teaching two versions of the jazz classic "Satin Doll."
Developing Technique & Musicianship
Here we switch almost entirely to music, musicianship, and advanced techniques for making music on the guitar. To get started right, Martin teaches a simple but soulful version of his own composition "True." Martin uses this tune as reference point throughout the curriculum. More techniques flow from Martin's presentation of jazz blues, "Somewhere Over The Rainbow", and "My Romance."
Learn By Playing Tunes
Watch, listen, play. It's all here: A progressive collection of tunes that represent every skill and technique Martin employs in his fingerstyle guitar playing. For many of these tunes, Martin provides a very detailed analysis of all of the techniques employed. All of the tunes are presented with alternate camera angles (you can see exactly what Martin sees using the "topview" camera angle), and slow-motion versions. Many of the tunes have downloadable notation PDF files, though Martin prefers you to use you eyes and ears rather than the notation which can become a "crutch" and inhibit progress.
Auxiliary Lessons
This is the place where material will be placed that relates to specific topics not covered in the core curriculum, such as accompanying a singer, gear, etc.

loads of ideas for you to, to look at in
jazz blues improv.
And we've slowed everything down for
you with this wonderful Artists Works
There's, there's loads of things really
you to, to really get your teeth into now.
And, it would be really great if you,
if you want to put a video together for me
to have a look at.
And if any of this isn't clear to you any,
any doubt you have, just really, you know,
just, just ask me about that.
Put that in, in your video.
And, I'll be very happy to, to respond and
and answer those,
those questions if I possibly can which
I'm I'm sure we can do.
So bring some of these these ideas in you
the basis of the blues on one, four, five.
Superimposing two, five, ones and
Bringing in our great friend the, the
tenths and the little lines in the middle.
On, on the seventh, as well as really just
keeping that whole kind of blues vibe,
get a nice tempo going, or this kind of
And just get a, a feeling of the, you
know, the of blues.
Listen to a lot of blues players and just
steal their licks too.
Put some of those real typical blues licks
in there, you know, and the mixture
of those, those real kind of old almost
like delta blues licks with some of this
some of this kinda jazz harmonizing and
re-harmonizing and
all these little devices that we're using,
can really be a lot of fun.
Things like you know, when, when we play
as I said when we play on G.
And G G seventh.
We can play it on a D-minor.
I mean,
why that works is because it's the same
It's basically we're using the same notes
in there.
We're just kind of starting from a
different point.
We're looking at it from a slightly
different direction rather than the,
the straightness of just the, the G there.
We're, we're looking it from,
it's like looking at something from a
slightly different angle.
You walk into a room and you say well
that's how this room looks.
Well, yeah, it looks like that from that
angle, but
if you go stand over there it has a
slightly different thing.
And when you see a room from a different
angle it has a whole different feel to it.
So we're, we're starting to play some
going from a slightly different angle.
So if you wanna put a video together a
short video
incorporating some of these ideas, I'd
really love to see that,
