It's just two notes out of the pentatonic
I guess I'm using a third one for some
But the thing that I like about this is
we're really taking advantage of
all the left hand muting techniques that
we learned in our chord exercises before.
Because we're strum, strumming like crazy
but we're getting single notes.
[SOUND] And it's not chaos, you know,
if I don't mute with my left hand it would
sound like this.
And that, that's a big ugly mess, and I
don't want that,
I want to be able to control it.
So, you can do it.
You made it through the chord section.
So, now you're ready to go.
at this point you've had enough experience
with strumming and
chickas where I'm hoping you can just hear
it and play it.
That's the goal.
You can just go
And your hands know where to go.
But let's look at some details just in
case you need to tweak it a little bit.
First of all it starts on one.
One, two, three, four.
let me see if there's anything unusual
going on with our strokes.
Now this is really cool.
We're doing two downstrokes to start it
off with [SOUND] then a little chicka.
Then after that it's two upstrokes
So it's the same notes, but these time
they're ups and
that's because they're syncopated beats
So let's just do that section back
Same notes but rhythmically they're
Both the way you'll hear it and the way
you'll play it.
So we'll go down down chicka chicka up up
down down chicka chicka up up.
Such a useful technique.
Let's put the rest of the lick in.
So I'm just putting a chicka ow.
And of course this is a great note to
We worked on it a little bit in the last
You can do some vibrato.
Or even just a bend up.
Yeah let's try that.
That's really, really cool.
That really shows the listener that you
have a lot of control,
[SOUND] over your instrument.
Really good sound.
Let's also try this, let's try ending that
note with a quick and
alternating between a really long one.
That again shows a lot of control and will
catch the audience's ear.
So I'm gonna do a short one first.
So that's the sorta thing that really
makes your playing musical,
this is much different than doing an
exercise and going like.
you can hear the contrast, to me there's a
huge difference in, just the, the grove is
coming out of the guitar when you throw in
the chickas [SOUND] you throw in vibrato.
You and you have a contrast between short
notes [SOUND] and
long notes [SOUND] or, or vibrato that
goes up and down [SOUND].
Or a single note bent slowly up.
