Training Dojo

In this section, you can have call and response sessions with experienced skratch djs. They'll skratch the questions, and you skratch the answers. Here, you can try to copy them or just freestyle. Try out the skratches you've learned and put them together in your own way. It's that easy!

When you get better, you can post your own call and response "sessions" for the training dojo so that others can skratch along with you too!

[MUSIC]
All right.
These are boomerangs right.
[SOUND]
That's invented by DJ Flare and what it
is, if you know how to do,
a easy way to learn that is if you know
how to do an aquaman.
[SOUND]
And that's the three sounds, for you.
Remember earlier when I was talking about
the Aquaman.
It's three sounds, it's the baby right?
One, two, three, and then backwards one,
two, three, right?
So it's four backward forward.
[NOISE] And then backward forward
backward.
[NOISE] And then you do the three clicks
in the,
in the middle of the transition of the,
the turn.
So the transition would be like [NOISE]
click, [NOISE] click,
[NOISE] click, right.
[MUSIC]
That was the Aquaman.
But a boomerang is Aquaman.
We just discovered, it's just an Aquaman,
a continuous Aquaman.
[SOUND]
But if he's doing this.
[MUSIC]
It's
just Boomerangs a Aquaman without the
pause in it.
[MUSIC]
[NOISE] So yeah, once again,
if you learn how to do the, the, Aquaman
scratch,
then you'll know how to do bo, a
boomerang.
If you just keep it consistent and don't
do the pause.
[NOISE] That's the Aquaman.
This is the pause.
And if you keep going, it's a boomerang.
[MUSIC]
So that one's a tricky one.
Cuz it's like we have to draw it.
I'm gonna show you a drawing of how to,
how it's notated.
And it'll help you understand it, but
it's.
[SOUND]
[MUSIC]
A very tricky scratch.
That one took me like two weeks to figure
out.
DJ Flair showed it to me and he would not
tell me how to do it.
And I just had keep saying can you just do
it one more time?
Just one more time?
I just kept watching him and watching him.
And after awhile I just kept experimenting
and I finally figured it out.
But, but I'm gonna let you know, that's,
that's pretty much the secret.
The easiest way to do it is to learn the
aquaman first.
And then, you just do the continuous
version of the Aquaman it's a boomerang.
[MUSIC]
Two clicks in there.
And see how we can break that down.
[MUSIC]
You know the easiest way to break it down
is just by learning that aquaman.
And just keep it consistent.
[SOUND] Forward, backward, forward, and
then backward, forward, backward.
[SOUND]
As
you're doing this slow, try to keep it
consistent.
[SOUND]
Then after a while,
you'll kind of slowly adjust into the
boomerang.
[MUSIC]
So,
once again, when you learn the aquaman
you're gonna do it one, two, three,
one, two, three, one, two, three, one,
two, three.
Slowly start swinging that one, two, three
until it becomes consistent.
So right now it's like, it's kind of like
a one, two, three, pause, one, two, three,
pause, one, two, three, pause, but slowly
giving it that pause.
So it's like, one, two, three, one, two,
three, one, two, three, one, two,
three, one, two, three, one, two, three,
one, two, three, one, two, three, one,
two, three, one, two, three, one, two,
three.
Then you'll have the boomerang.
[MUSIC]
And
that's pretty much the secret to get that,
that scratch.
