In this section, you can have call and response sessions with experienced skratch djs. They'll skratch the questions, and you skratch the answers. Here, you can try to copy them or just freestyle. Try out the skratches you've learned and put them together in your own way. It's that easy!

When you get better, you can post your own call and response "sessions" for the training dojo so that others can skratch along with you too!

[MUSIC]
We're
gonna talk about drumming, basics all the
way up to advanced stuff.
So, drumming basically, is, you know,
you're working with two different samples
or more, and you're basically doing all
the skratches you know into your drumming.
So, when I first started drumming of
course,
it's gonna be the exact same thing as
learning your basics for skratching.
If you're wondering how the heck do I
drum,
well you gotta learn all your basics for
scratching.
Okay.
So, lets, lets start from the beginning.
So, there's a baby [NOISE].
Right?
So then, you got that skratch.
Then, the next skratch I learned was, I'm
gonna run through my history of,
of when I, how I learned drumming.
So then, I learned how to stab of course.
[MUSIC]
All right.
And then, you practice going back and
forth from the,
of the samples really quick.
[SOUND]
Okay?
And then, transforming came in.
[SOUND]
All right?
So then, you learn that.
Then, of course, tearing, you know?
[SOUND]
And then, you transform that.
[MUSIC]
Then, you start getting to music theory
and you swing it.
[MUSIC]
All right?
Then,
of course, you could throw a chirps in
there.
[MUSIC]
[MUSIC]
Then, I learned flaring.
[MUSIC]
All right, then what else was there?
one click flares
[MUSIC]
Combining with other scratches,
one quick flares to chirps.
All right?
So,
as you can see, drumming is just like
skratching.
You gotta learn your basics before you can
do all these,
other, other things you wanna do with
drumming.
You know?
And, I started learning boomerangs.
[SOUND]
Then, you learn, what else [SOUND]
delayed flares.
[SOUND]
All right?
Then, what else was there?
And on, and on, and on.
So, you can do, you can start treating you
snare like a,
like a, like a you know, you're always
scratching all the time.
So, when you get to drumming, you treat
your and
your kick like a eeny-weeny tiny little.
Then, you could
practice.
Uh,using two, wait.
Drumming is like kick, snare and then you
add another one.
So, that'd be three.
So, like kick, snare, kick.
Like boom-ka-boom.
[SOUND]
You know, so you start learning, also,
things going backwards, too.
All your skratches going back, backwards.
So, if you wanna learn how to drum, you
gotta learn the basics of scratching, and
then you can always apply that to your
drumming.
So if, if you're starting off drumming,
and, and
you just add transforming, well then
you're only gonna be able to transform
your drums [SOUND]
Right?
So, when you start getting to tears, and
then combining that with
your drumming you can transform your
little kicks and snares.
[MUSIC].
You know, crabs and everything in between.
So, it's not really a matter of you know
like how,
how, how do I drum a certain way?
It's, it's important just to get your
basic scratches and
you can always apply that into your drum.
You'll see how that happens later when you
when you get all your, you know,
tears, transforms, stabs chirps, flares.
When you get all that stuff, and you start
practicing drumming,
you're gonna be like, oh, wow.
I can, I can I can drum pretty good.
And, it's all about you know, just kind of
making your own rhythm.
So, if you wanna [NOISE] kinda just gotta
think about like let's see how,
how this sounds.
Now, always do it with your mouth
[MUSIC]
Now, how do you make that sound come
from your mouth?
Well, you break it down.
So, the first part is, [SOUND].
So, how do you make a [SOUND]?
And then, you got to think about it.
Okay?
that's the first part, whats [SOUND]?
then you know you gotta Get a little
transformer in there.
All right?
[SOUND]
anyway so
It all breaks down to just kinda doing it
slow and you get used to it.
And, all these like, little drumming type
of magical things happen.
And, it, it's just takes time and, and
practice, and experimentation.
And yeah.
You guys know all that stuff.
But, yeah, get those basics, transforms,
flares, and chirps.
And, all that stuff.
And, this, this will come, come next.
So, yeah.
