welcome to the fifth tutorial related to
the part music series [INAUDIBLE].
After we have learned to transcribe the
record motion patterns,
we tackle now the second compliment of the
turn table instrument.
And you are right this is a crossfader, a
fader performance.
And we're gonna systemize the right range
of crossfader techniques
nearly with the same classification as we
have done it at the record motion.
This is very interesting I think, so we
use the words or
the term single movements and also ending
integral movements.
Also for the crossfader performance, and
Furthermore, you can transfer this content
and the following tutorials
on the line fader to play exactly the same
types of playing strategies.
I think this is quite interesting.

>> So okay one way movement.
First some basics.
The symbol representing the crossfader
performance is
always placed above the staff.
Yeah, right above the record motion symbol
you can see this notation indication or I
have already spoken about this.
So in the graphical shape of the one way
the text functionality of the cross fitter
motion, yeah.
To indicate this cross fader motion, we
use two different symbols.
So this is, on the one hand, this is an
open brace.
For the open motion of the crossfader,
this applies also when you play in the
hamster mode.
So the open motion would be like this
here, this is the open motion.
So in the closing brace, is for closing
the fader.
Logic, yeah?
So that means the closing motion for
regular mode is closing with the thumb,
playing in hamster mode is closing with
the index or the middle or the whatever.
So when you can see the respective
indication also on the screen, and yeah.
So, it's a practical conversion.
On the left example the record motion and
it's a crossfader motion are performed
exactly, ex, at the same time.
The one eighth note record performance is
done at the same time as,
as open to crossfader performance is done.
The starting position of the crossfader is
in this case,
closed, logic, and the ending position of
the crossfader is open.
So, that means that as soon as we move the
record forward by hand,
we open the crossfader Okay.
After a time value of one eighth we stop
the record.
And the crossfader is still open so the
whole practical conversion goes like this.
We see a one eighth note, that means we
play it in the hand mode.
So, and now we play the one eighth and
exactly at the same time.
[SOUND] We move the record, and after one
eighth, we stop the record.
And the crossfader's still open, yes?
So when you play it in a, in a hamster
mode, it goes like this.
Sorry, I must reverse my crossfader.
So that means, start position, closed
And then.
[SOUND] We open and stop after one eighth,
and the cross fader is still open, okay?
[SOUND] So, in the second example, the
start position of the crossfader is now
to be open ended and it's ending position
is to be closed.
Logic, because this is the closed motion
So it means, it's stop position,
tech and end position.
So the record motion is a one eighth as
So it's important to close the crossfader
soon as the one eighth record motion is
That means start position open fader, and
now we play it, the one eighth.
[SOUND] And after this, we close the
fader, yeah?
Once again, start position is open.
We play a one eighth.
[SOUND] And close the fader.
So, for hamster mode.
Like this.
That means we play the one eight.
[SOUND] And close the fader.
Okay, so this is crucial for the close
performance in particular.
The record has to be started slightly
before the crossfader does.
And if both performances are started at
[SOUND] Same time like this here.
[SOUND] The record motion would not be
In this example and
one eighth note has to be performed before
the crossfader is closed.
So, so we start with the rocker record
and after where executed the gift time
[SOUND] Of an one eighth, we close fader
and the performance is finished.
