In the 4th Movement Fast Solo Symphony,
the things that we expect is speed and
clarity of articulation.
There are many ways that we have to
sometimes do what I call smokes and
mirrors because sometimes our
naturalization is not fast enough for
the passage.
So we can try to do two and two,
two slurred to articulated notes.
And the way that that would work
is by trying not to accent where
the articulations and
actually making sure that the slurge
would be a little bit bumpy.
Now, the other thing to try for is that
we have to remember that it says dolce,
but the last dynamic that Beethoven
writes is actually forte.
So what that gives us is an opportunity to
be able to use full air and
make sure that we can be relaxed.
And then we cannot have to worry about
being too harsh when we articulate because
we're going to be using full air.
Now there we're actually doubling the
first violins and therefore it's something
that even if we were to play really loud,
it doesn't really stick out of the picture
because you usually have between 10 and
14 first violins playing.
For an audition set up what you
want to have is clarity and
a happy go lucky approach.
What that means by happy go
lucky is that there's a need
to accentuate a little bit to
bring out the grace note, okay.
So basically when we practice this,
I would suggest practicing
it mostly slurred, actually,
just to get us used to being relaxed and
full air capacity so.
So bringing up that little crescent.
Okay, so that then we are,
like we were discussing in the staccato,
let's just go one little nudge at a time,
like that,
until we get to a good tempo for
this piece, is around between 136 and 146.
We go like that.
And so
that's what we're going to try to do.
