Winter Wonderland Dobro Lesson with Andy Hall

Andy Hall took a little time out recently from touring and teaching at his ArtistWorks Online Dobro School to record a quick and easy version of the Holiday classic Winter Wonderland.

Andy recorded this Dobro lesson from his ArtistWorks Studio where he watches videos his students send to him and records his video responses.

Andy plays the tune in the key of G, the most common open tuning for bluegrass Dobro and uses some of the techniques he teaches in the beginner section of his lessons.  From sliding up to notes, to double stops and single note steel angling, Andy covers everything from the basics all the way up to advanced playing in his online Dobro lessons.

And the cool thing is that players can watch the lessons, submit practice videos and get video responses with feedback from Andy.

acoustic music seminarHere's a nice promo video for the Acoustic Music Seminar put on by the Savannah Music Festival. Mike Marshall put together an array of virtuoso musicians to work with some of the best young string players in a week long series of master classes. Instructors include Mike Marshall, Tony Trischka, Julian Lage, Chris Thile, Bruce Molsky, Zakir Hussain, Daniel Hope, David Fincklet, and Edgar Meyer. The idea is to immerse the kids with some of the top players in the world and work with them in small groups to create their own compositions. The week ends with a concert featuring the kids and their instructors called Stringband Spectacular. They're currently accepting applications for the 2013 Acoustic Music Seminar so if you're 22 or younger and have the chops be sure to apply
