That Familiar Twangy Sound... Without Electricity!

My first guitar was not actually a guitar, but instead something that "Looks like a real electric instrument."

I did spend some very enjoyable hours jumping around in front of my mirror with it, but the "familiar twangy sound" advertised in the catalog was actually the sound of the strings fretting out on all-metal neck. It was my fifth birthday and my parents went for the complete package and bought the amplifier as well. It attached to the guitar with... a piece of yarn with a suction cup on the end. The result? No audible guitar sound, multiplied by yard and suction cup equals...

It's time to put on some Beatles and Led Zeppelin records and jump around in front of the mirror some more.

Now that I have a guitar that makes real sounds (some of them familiar and twangy), I'm really happy, and spending much less time with the mirror.

The Sears catalog brings back some good memories, but I must admit that the internet is an improvement.

How to Play "All Along the Watchtower"

What do "Crazy Train," "All Along the Watchtower," "Sweet Emotion," and my song, "Vibrato" all have in common?

They all feature the Vibraslap.

I know that this site is for learning rock guitar. But if you ever want to be a multi-instrumentalist, the vibraslap could be a good place to start.

Thank you,

Paul

Hey,

Just found this video of myself teaching an E7 dominant lick during my visit to Thailand 3 years ago. I performed at a big festival outside Bangkok with my trio and I also hade the opportunity to do interviews/masterclasses and was featured in a couple of guitar magazines.

I hope you'll find this one useful!

Bruce Bouillet Interview

Bruce Bouillet and I spent the mid-to-late 80s playing ferocious guitar harmonies together in the band RACER X.

Bruce went on to form The Scream, became a Grammy-winning recording engineer, and also recorded and toured with the bands Epidemic and The Bottom Dwellerz. Bruce played in my live solo band on the 2007 G3 tour, and has recently released several guitar instrumental albums.

Check out this in-depth video interview that I did with Bruce here.

P.S. Here are some photos of Bruce and me, from our Racer X glory days...

Back from Blue Bay Festival, Ukraine

hey all,

Just got back from the Blue Bay Festival just by the black sea in Ukraine. I had a great time performing as one of the headliners together with the Ukranian band "Lush Life". there were a few really great acts performing at the festival and I was delighted to see my friend Bireli Lagrene again. He played an awesome show together with his band, I haven't seen him since we did a few shows together in paris 2009.

Also I was happy to meet Nikitas, one of the young students studying guitar with me online on this site. We got to talk a bit and play a few songs. Looking forward following this young man's progress.

I was also awarded with a guitar from the Ukranian builder AVAKS at a cermony on the main stage. Very unexpected but honoring to receive such a fine gift...

More pictures will be posted later.

regards andreas

It's not easy to sustain that hairstyle, but I've become better at sustaining notes. And the pose still works.

st luis classical Guitar Society jason vieauxJason Vieaux will perform at the St. Louis Classical Guitar Society's opening season event on Saturday, September 28, 2013. The St. Louis Classical Guitar Society is celebrating it's 50th season this year, and Jason Vieaux first made his debut there 10 years ago in 2003.

"The Guitar Society has a really wonderful history. It’s one of the longest-running purely classical guitar series in the United States, if not the longest-running.” - Jason Vieaux (click here to read more from Jason's interview with St. Louis Today)

Jason will be playing a classical guitar piece from composer Benjamin Britten, who in 2013 would have turned 100. The piece, “Nocturnal After John Dowland”, was originally written for the great classical guitarist Julian Bream, who first performed it in 1964.

For tickets and more information about the show visit the St. Louis Classical Guitar Society's Website.
