I found this old photo of when I was collecting vintage Ibanez guitars on ebay. Do two Flying V's make a Flying W? Acually Ibanez's model name for these guitars was "Rocket Roll II." Whatever the name... they rock!

Thank you,

Thanks for teaching me how to play real country music!"  - Guthrie Trapp

Hey guys!

I've been fortunate this week to have spent time with some of the brightest young musicians I've ever seen. Mike Marshall runs the Acoustic Music Seminar at the Savannah Music Fest in Savannah, Ga.  I was one of 4 "coaches" along with Mike, Darrell Scott, and Julian Lage.  Mike, Darrell, Julian, and I basically helped various groups of these kids create arrangements of tunes they submitted.  The focus of the week is engaging in pretty intense collaborations and performance challenges.  This group of young musicians was so strong.  My point is that I brought my traveling VE rig thinking I'd have time to keep up.  Alas, the days were long here and I havent had the chance to film anything.  I'll be home early next week and will dive in with the submissions.

Music theory and the number system

Hello my reso friends. With this blog I’d like to talk about the topic of the number system. Some of you may have heard about this, and I’ve done some here and there to describe it. What I’ve noticed is that with music theory type stuff, it takes a lot of repetition over time and from different angles for things to sink in. So let’s use this as an opportunity to push the bar forward a little on our knowledge of theory, and more specifically, the number system. It’s a pretty useful and widely used way to refer to notes or chords, and help musicians communicate.

Drones are back, as a download or CD

Those infamous Drones are back in tangible existence as a CD... This collection of MP4 tracks sampled at 192k contains drones of 2 tonics an octave apart and a fifth, in just intonation. Each key lasts roughly six minutes and the sequence plays through all the keys in order (the circle of 4ths starting from C).
