Here's a nice promo video for the Acoustic Music Seminar put on by the Savannah Music Festival. Mike Marshall put together an array of virtuoso musicians to work with some of the best young string players in a week long series of master classes. Instructors include Mike Marshall, Tony Trischka, Julian Lage, Chris Thile, Bruce Molsky, Zakir Hussain, Daniel Hope, David Fincklet, and Edgar Meyer. The idea is to immerse the kids with some of the top players in the world and work with them in small groups to create their own compositions. The week ends with a concert featuring the kids and their instructors called Stringband Spectacular. They're currently accepting applications for the 2013 Acoustic Music Seminar so if you're 22 or younger and have the chops be sure to apply!
It all starts with a hammer on on the second string and alternating thumb and index finger. That’s the beginning of this banjo lesson in the style of the most famous five string banjo tune, "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" by Earl Scruggs.
