Tommy Emmanuel and Martin Taylor have released a new video of them talking about their new album The Colonel & The Governor. Tommy breaks down the title and explains that he's "the Colonel" due to his status as a Kentucky colonel, and that he's always called Martin "the Governor" as it's a British term of endearment and also because Martin is simply "the best".
They talk about some of the songs on the album and there's footage of them playing as well. Martin talks about the process of taking existing tunes and transforming them into your own. "It's funny how you can just change a tempo, reharmonize slightly and it just goes into another direction", says Martin. They also talk about Martin's technique of using a piece of cardboard through the strings of his guitar as a way to mimic the sound of a steel drum on a Caribbean influenced song they do.
Very proud to announce that Martin Taylor was on the cover of the new Chitarra Acustica magazine last month! There's a nice write up and interview they did with Martin, the only thing is that it's in Italian so you may need a translator if you aren't fluent. We've uploaded the article as a PDF which you can check out here or just click on the picture to read the full story!
Premier Guitar has posted a new interview with Martin Taylor and Tommy Emmanuel. It's a very nice, in-depth piece on the duo who have recently released a new album together, The Colonel and The Governor. They discuss their latest collaboration, as well as the art of solo guitar, their musical influences, and they also get into a discussion on the importance of guitar education. Students of Martin will be interested to hear about how he first got involved teaching online guitar lessons at Artistworks.
"The great thing is as I started to do it I found out I really enjoy teaching." - Martin Taylor
