This is a really fun interview Tony did with highly acclaimed banjo player Danny Barnes in the ArtistWorks RV at RockyGrass 2016. Danny Barnes is a banjo player, singer, and composer whose music is influenced by country, jazz, blues, punk, metal, and more. He has been described as a "banjo virtuoso" and is "widely acknowledged as one of the best banjo players in America. In September 2015, Barnes was awarded the Steve Martin Prize for Excellence in Banjo and Bluegrass, in recognition of his role as "one of bluegrass music’s most distinctive and innovative performers." This interview series is in 3 parts and runs about 24 minutes in total including Danny performing some original tunes.

Tony Trischka was in the ArtistWorks studio recently filming new banjo lessons and for some of them he was also joined by longtime friend and collaborator, the legendary Peter Rowan

Here's some of the topics they covered in the new lessons: tunes, techniques (more on hammer-ons and slides), modal study, picking and pick placement, banjo rolls (including an exercise to practice "all roll combos" together as a warm up), a Stravinsky classical piece, useful licks, methods for expanding your solo/improv range, how to blend Scruggs & Melodic style playing to your advantage, and more!

And if that wern't enough, there's also an exlusive interview with Peter and Tony where they discuss all sorts of fun things (including some entertaining stories about Peter's time playing with Bill Monroe as a member of the iconic Bluegrass Boys). We'll upload all the videos soon, in the meantime you can see a short clip of them recoding together in the studio which we broadcasted live from our Facebook page.
