Missy Raines is interviewed by Jon Liebman in this new interview on For Bass Players Only. She talks about her early exposures to music and learning bass, her thoughts on other female bassists, teaching online bass lessons with ArtistWorks, and much more.
"I didn’t teach myself, really. I learned from those around me. I learned by listening and I picked up as much as I could. I did not study formally, though; I just played. I was a teenager and I just played all the time. I played with records and I played with other people. I would go to bluegrass festivals and spend hours and hours jamming with other musicians, mostly people my own age, so it was just that." - Missy Raines

Tony Trischka, "one of the most influential banjo players in the world" dropped by NJTV to talk about all things banjo. Tony goes into how important the Earl Scruggs influence remains, as well as being inspired to learn banjo after hearing the banjo solo in the song "Charlie and the MTA" by the Kingston Trio. He talks about his bluegrass roots and plays some of "Cripple Creek", and also goes into his interest in different styles of music like jazz, rock, and classical. Watch the full interview below!
One of our mandolin students has written a great review of his experience taking online mandolin lessons with Mike Marshall. He posted this in the forums at the School of Mandolin but we wanted to showcase it here on the blog so everyone can read it. We've also linked to two of his Video Exchanges so be sure to click on the images below to watch.
I've been a member of the Mike Marshall School of Mandolin (MMSM) for a little over one year now (first video submission response was on 12/24/11) and I'd like to share my thoughts on how it has gone.
One word: AMAZING. If you look at my first exchange and compare it to my most recent exchange, there is no comparison.
