Here's a special pre Halloween treat for y'all! DMC World Champ and QSU Ambassador DJ Nelson! This is from 2011 when Nelson came to visit Qbert at the QSU headquarters. He's using a test pressing of Kombat Kutz here and cutting it up like a champ!
There is some quality clips of the Beat Junkies performing live at their 20th Anniversary show in Brooklyn last weekend: check it out!! Props to Stevie E for the link, which comes courtesy of The Double Truth. Also be sure to check out the documentary on the Beat Junkies we posted a while back for an inside look at this legendary group of DJs.
By popular request we have updated the deadline for the QSU Valedictorian 2012 Battle! The new updated deadline is: Monday October 29, 2012. That means you have the rest of this week and the weekend to submit a 1 minute video of your best skratching.
Who's gonna take home the jacket? Remember, this is not about being the fastest or doing the 1 million click flare... this is about being the illest! Choose your beat, choose your samples, and have fun with it! You'll have a chance to vote and comment on all the videos before Qbert makes the final decision.
I stumbled upon this today and was really glad I did! It's a French documentary about Scratch Music that surely doesn't dissapoint. Unless you can't understand French like me, but you know what? It doesn't really matter because the language of scratching is universal! If you really want to know what they're saying in those interviews, just ask one of our QSU France DJs (like Supaphonik or QFoclan SupZinc)!
Shortkut did an in depth interview on Primat City TV that is really worth checking out, it doesn't have many views so chances are good you haven't seen it. Short talks about how he starting DJing in 1987 at age 12, his first crew Just 2 Hype, early days with the Invisibl Skratch Piklz, ISP vs. the X-Men, the Beat Junkies, Triple Threat, working with Vestax, and much much more!
Happy Birthday Shortkut! One of the best ever, no question, Shorkut can do it all. Whether on the cut or in the mix, he's been holding it down since he first hit the scene in the 90s.
Students, be sure to check out his Beat Juggling tutorials in the lessons!
Follow him on Twitter to catch him in a city near you!
Qbert cuts it up at the Freedom of Beats, which is an LA event hosted by DJ Revolution.
