ArtistWorks Fiddle Prof Darol Anger visited the Joe Val Bluegrass Festival near Boston over Valentines' Day weekend. He taught a fiddle workshop and sat in with multi-instrumental wizard John Jorgensons' great band featuring Herb Pedersen, Mike Bub, and Patrick Sauber. Here's a link to Darol trying to catch up to the blistering tempo on John Hardy.

savannah music festivalHello all you ArtistWorks folks! I just got back from 2 amazing educational events in Georgia and Maine, where I worked with 2 other ArtistWorks professors: Mike Marshall & Tony Trischka. The Savannah Music Festival was an enormous event that takes over the whole historic city for a month; I spent 4 days there concertizing and working with a select group of young musicians chosen for Mike's Acoustic Music Seminar there. I also performed with my group The Old-Time Kozmik Trio (Bruce Molsky, Rushad Eggleston) and as a Duo with Mike.

Then up to Maine, for the FIRST ANNUAL Maine Acoustic Festival, a similar, but much smaller festival drawing from all the super-talented youngsters playing string instruments up in that state. Sponsored partly by the wonderful regional music school 317 Main, this festival featured performances by groups playing in acoustic styles such as French-Canadian, Bluegrass, and Celtic. The long day concluded with a performance-lecture by Tony Trischka and his band (with me) on the history and music of the Banjo, drawing from the new documentary narrated by Steve Martin, Give Me The Banjo. A fantastic week! - Darol Anger
