Blasters on Xmas Family Tour

I'm currently in the middle of the "Xmas Family Tour," an annual tour organized by LA punk legends X that for the second year in a row also features my band, the Blasters. We started last week in Arizona (Tucson, Phoenix) and this week performed back in SoCal (San Diego, San Juan Capistrano, Agoura) before heading up to Portland and Seattle next week. The Portland shows are at the Star Theater on December 18 and 21 separated by two nights in Seattle (December 19-20) at the El Corazon. We'll head back home for Christmas and then finish the tour in San Francisco with another two nights at the fabulous Fillmore (December 26-27).
If you can make it to any of those shows and have the opportunity to say hello I would love to meet you in person (also, if you send me a video during that time period and I'm a little slow to respond, please be understanding). We have another US tour (from LA to Texas and back) scheduled for February as well as a European tour next summer - I'll post more info as we get closer. See you further on up the road!

Keith Wyatt's Essential Blues Guitarists

As a teacher, I am frequently asked "Which blues guitar players should I listen to?" To be an educated player it is essential to be aware of primary influences (in this case, focusing on the electric blues tradition) - so I’ll give you some opinions, but it’s crucial to keep in mind that there are many more than I mention who have also made important contributions to the style.
My own education in blues guitar began in the most typical way - I was inspired by the then-new generation of blues-rock icons such as Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, and Jimmy Page and became curious about how they developed their sound, which led me back in time to the beginning of the electric blues era in the early 1940s and ultimately to the dawn of recorded blues in the early 1920s. The farther back I went, the stranger the music sounded compared to the “modern” players I was familiar with, but I also began to hear the threads that connected them all and to develop a sense of how every player along the line drew on common elements and added their personal twist, creating an ever-expanding vocabulary of phrasing, technique, sound, and style.

We are excited to announce that we will soon be offering blues guitar lessons from Keith Wyatt (Musicians Institute, The Blasters). Officially launching on December 11th, we are currently taking pre-orders now (click here for more info and free sample lessons).
A while back, we did a survey with our current members to see what other instruments they would be interested in learning online. Amongst some interesting requests that came in, there was one that overwhelmingly stood out: blues guitar lessons.
