Ok, so you got yourself a fiddle and are looking to become the best fiddling fiddler your town as ever seen… You got the right attitude, but it's still going to take some serious practice and a good fiddle teacher if you really want to reach that next level. Lucky for you there's people like Darol Anger who can teach you everything you'll need to know when it comes to fiddling (he's that good). One of the first things you'll need to know is how to rosin the bow, and that's exactly what you'll learn in this fiddle lesson from Darol's online fiddling school. So make sure you're comfortable, take the phone on off the hook, and get ready to learn how to rosin the bow!

Darol & Furies work out on Elzic's Farewell

From the Furies' May 2013 Freight And Salvage performance. This tune is a real winner; one of the better "stories", both in a musical sense and also in the historical department. The tune itself has 3 parts, with a winning hook on the 3rd part, which we begin and end with. The general version of the tune comes from guitarist Scott Nygaard's adaptation; he developed the melody of the A part in particular. I added a chromatic descending and ascending line to the not-very-interesting 2nd part, and doubled the length.  Then... we jammed. In particular, Tristan's cello playing on this tune must be heard to be believed.

"There are very few things in this world more annoying than a fiddle played out of tune." - Darol Anger

Getting your fiddle in tune is something that is so important, and unfortunately, often overlooked.  As Darol says in the fiddle lesson here, it's something you'll be working on for your entire fiddle life.  It's a never-ending struggle, even for Darol who's been playing fiddle for almost 50 years.  But the good news is that we're here to help!
