Rock Face of The Month

Matt T. wins the prize this month for Best Rock Face. As a teacher, I'm always proud when I see (and hear) my students getting a strong grip on the important elements of rock guitar. The "before" photo at the top is the screen shot from Matt's first Video Exchange, and the "after" photo is from his most recent VE. Matt has always played well, but this photo is visual proof that he's heading in the right direction. And of course, he sounds great too. Maybe YOU will be the next Rock Face of The Month. Just remember, that it can't be forced or faked. Just bend your strings, and the faces will come!

Thank you,

Paul

Fireman Collection

The Fireman is a large-bodied Electric Brontosaurus of a guitar. I made some time to organize my studio, and I certainly enjoyed putting this collection together. Thank you, Ibanez, for building these!

Rock and Roll,

Spaceship One

I was going through some old photos, and I found these shots from the "Spaceship One" album cover photo session. The top photo is the one I used, but I decided to the crop the photo so my head wouldn't be seen. Now you can see the uncropped version. The other two are examples of things that every rock photo session must have: 1. Staring into the camera, looking mean. 2. Jumping into the air. The guitar is a 60's Ibanez hollowbody. I bought it on ebay, and it came with the wrong bridge, so it wasn't playable without finding some rare parts. But it looked cool for the photos.

And many thanks to Linus of Hollywood and Marco Minnemann who were both willing to wear matching space suits for the accompanying video.

Rock and Roll!

paul gilbert bruce Bouillet google hangout

Paul Gilbert will join longtime friend and fellow Racer X guitarist Bruce Bouillet for a live Google Hangout on Saturday, March 19 at 2:00 PM Pacific Time. This special live event is a rare opportunity for people to tune in and interact with these two rock guitar legends in real time. Also joining us on the Hangout panel will be John Graves of ArtistWorks and two of Paul's students here: ryanitos and Kdog.

We have posted the video player above here, although it won't be available to watch until we go live on Saturday. Tune in and ask questions on the page here! If you can't watch it live, don't worry - the video will be always available on the ArtistWorks YouTube channel after it ends. In the meantime if you're already a member of Paul's school, check out his great 9-Part Series with Bruce in the +Music area!
