ArtistWorks is proud to be a part of the World of Bluegrass at the annual IBMA Award Show - taking place in Raleigh, North Carolina this week! We had a chance to speak with some of our bluegrass instructors about what the International Bluegrass Music Association means to them.

"I'm proud to be a part of this IBMA community. I'm teaching bluegrass mandolin through the ArtistWorks Academy of Bluegrass. I grew up playing bluegrass, it was my first love and it will always be near and dear to my heart. No matter where I've gone musically, I always reach back for those roots and the things I learned early on in my career." - Mike Marshall

"I love the IBMA, it's where everyone gets together. You see people that you haven't seen for a year, you jam, you hang out, it's just a great experience and it reminds us where we've been as bluegrass musicians and also where we want to go." - Bryan Sutton

"I can't even remember a time when I didn't know what bluegrass was. It feels so great to be part of what's happening today as well, and IBMA is such a great opportunity because I get to see old friends, meet new friends, and just get excited about where the music is going and what's happening next." - Missy Raines

2014 IBMA Awards

The International Bluegrass Association has released their picks for the 2014 IBMA awards, and we are pleased to announce that three of our bluegrass teachers have been nominated!

In the Bass category, Missy Raines has been nominated for her 8th IBMA award. In the guitar category, Bryan Sutton has been nominated for his 7th IBMA award. Last but not least, Andy Hall has also been nominated which would mark his first award in the Dobro category (although he did win the award for Instrumental Album of the Year back in 2008 for his debut Sound of the Slide Guitar).

The event itself takes place in Raleigh, NC from September 30 to October 4, and includes the annual World of Bluegrass conference/show. If you've never been, it is definitely the place to be for bluegrass enthusists. If you are going, be sure to email us at media@artistworks.com, we always love hearing from you at events.

For anyone who missed it, here's the full video of our recent "Mando Magic with Mike Marshall" workshop. Moderated by Scott Tichnenor of Mandolin Cafe, we were also joined by some of Mike's mandolin students as well as ArtistWorks Dobro instructor Andy Hall. We had a blast getting into some interesting mandolin related topics, and of course there was some jamming as well! Thanks to everyone who tuned in live and especially the students here who participated and helped us get the word out. See you next time!

online mandolin workshop with mike marshall

Join us LIVE on Wednesday, July 9th at 5:30 PDT for an online mandolin workshop featuring Mike Marshall along with ArtistWorks Dobro instructor Andy Hall. We did one of these last year which was a lot of fun (click here to watch if you missed it), and we look forward to another great workshop which we're calling "Mando Magic with Mike Marshall." Mike will be joined once again by Mandolin Cafe founder Scott Tichenor to talk about his own history playing mandolin, plus they'll also be some jamming as well as discussion about techniques and playing tips.

This is a rare opportunity, so click here to Pre-Register for "Mando Magic with Mike Marshall"! You'll be sent a reminder to tune in live when the event happens on July 9th.
