The Work Song
By request, a lesson on Nat Adderly's classic bluesy soul/Jazz hit, "The Work Song"
. I put it in "Advanced", because to play the melody correctly, you need the 5 overblow for one note. But Intermediate players should definitely check it out, because it's very playable. It is a great tune for Blues players who are trying to make the jump into playing Jazz. Paul Butterfield made a famous recording of it back in the 1960's. He couldn't play that one note, so he he changed the melody, and instead of playing the 16 bar chord progression, he and his band played a 12 bar minor Blues. But it's the same tune, and you can find it in the Advanced Section for now.
