GGE Day Two

Wow! I just got back to my room after an amazing concert with all the guitar teachers at my camp. Andy Timmons, Mimi Fox, Scotty Johnson, Tony Spinner, and Adam Fulara all played such good songs and solos. We all did lots of jamming together, and got a standing ovation from the audience for both of our last two songs. I truly enjoyed the show.

I also did the most intense student jam session that I've even done. I used a loop pedal to create a guitar rhythm groove, and then brought every guitar player in the room up on stage to jam, one at a time. Many guitarists from this school came up and played, and everyone did great. I had a guitar tech help everyone get plugged in, so we could keep the jam going without ever stopping the music. I didn't count how many people came up, but I'm guessing it was about 50. It was definitely the biggest jam session that I've ever done. It lasted over an hour without stopping!

I also gave private lessons, and sat in with Tony Spinner during his workshop. (I played bass, while has played blues and slide guitar.) At the end of Tony's workshop, I asked him if a person has to "suffer" to really play the blues. Tony gave a heartfelt answer and did an amazing thing. He played a couple blues licks, and said, "That was just from my fingers, I wasn't really feeling it." Then he said, "Here's something with my heart in it." And he played some phrases that turned the air of the room a different color, and made my eyes tear up. Tony proved that guitar can communicate much more than what can be written on the page.

I could go on and on. It was a great day. And the camp rolls (and rocks) on!

Thank you,

Paul

P.S. Sorry, I don't have new photos today. I was too busy playing and teaching!
