I created this Mandolin Orchestra especially to represent the Jewish Mandolin Orchestra tradition from Eastern Europe in the 1930s. We recreated the music of an actual ensemble that existed in Gora Kalwaria, Poland (Ger) from that time and I had the privilege of being able to hand select some of the finest players in the world to fill these 11 seats. (Matching the original).

Most of the original members did not survive the horrors of the 2nd World War, so it is an honor and extremely uplifting to be a part of something with such historic significance. 

Bringing back to life something which was thought to be lost forever.

Caterina Lichtenberg and I had the great honor of being asked to perform with the New Century Chamber Orchestra in 2012. This group is a Bay Area based ensemble of strings and is lead by violin virtuoso Nadia Solerno-Sonnenberg. This is an elite group of some of the best players Nadia could surround herself with. For Caterina and I it was a real treat.

Hello students!

My very close friend and fellow picker, David Grisman, is turning 70 on March 23rd. I would like to pay tribute to him by making a short video which marks this milestone birthday. He has been a big influence on myself and my playing, as I imagine he has been on most of you as well. I thought it would be nice to include kind words from some of you in my video, so I've created this forum HERE for you all to tell me a bit about how The Dawg has influenced your playing and effected your life. I will only be able to feature a few of these, as the video will be short, but all forum posts are welcome and deeply appreciated.
