Martin's Covid Update

Many thanks for your very kind 'Get Well Soon' messages. They gave me a real boost during these difficult couple of weeks.

The good news is I'm now out of the 10 Days Self-Isolation period, and have tested NEGATIVE for Covid.

The not so good news is that it's left me very weak and I'm tired most to the time. It's going to take a while for me to shake this off.

I managed to take a short walk yesterday with Ted (see photo) so feel I'm definitely on the mend.

Julian Bream (1933 - 2020)

Sad to hear the news that the great classical guitarist Julian Bream has passed.

He did so much for the classical guitar and played with great passion.

I was fortunate to know Julian and am very grateful for his inspiraration and encouragement in my early years.

Julian also loved Jazz and was a big fan of Django Reinhardt. Julian enjoyed playing Django style with friends.

He will be missed, but his music lives forever.

Bucky Pizzarelli (1926 - 2020)

The death of Bucky Pizzarelli at the age of 94 in New Jersey is deeply felt among jazz musicians and fans.

A true pioneer of 7 string jazz guitar, Bucky will be sadly missed by all that knew him and his music.

Here is a link for a tribute to Bucky from London Jazz Times written by his friends Martin Taylor and Ted Clark

Vic Juris (1953 - 2019)

The jazz guitar world recently lost one of it's great players Vic Juris . I toured with Vic along with Barney Kessel and Bireli Lagrene back in the 1980's and was always so impressed by him both as a guitarist and a as a person.

Martin on Tour in Asia

It was great to catch up with my guitar student Simeon in Tokyo. Simeon is very active on 3 or 4 ArtistWorks sites.

Don't forget.... If I'm playing somewhere near you, please come along and say hello!

Congratulations Ally Pickering!

Many of you on the site will remember Ally Pickering who was a guitar student here for several years.

I'm delighted to hear that Ally has graduated, with flying colors, from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.

It's been a privilage for me to help Ally on his musical journey and give help and advise along the way.

Ally and I did many Video Exchanges together which you can check out here on the site.
