Martin Taylor & Ulf Wakenius Legacy

Martin Taylor & Ulf Wakenius have teamed up for their latest touring project called 'Legacy' which draws on their years of working with jazz legends Stephane Grappelli and Oscar Peterson.

Martin toured with Stephane Grappelli for 11 years from 1979 to 1990, and Ulf toured with Oscar Peterson during the last ten years of the Canadian piano stars life.

Martin Live on BBC Radio 4 'Loose Ends'

I'm currently on a Solo UK Tour celebrating my 60th birthday. I started the tour by being a guest on BBC Radio 4 'Loose Ends with Clive Anderson'

My fellow guests were the Hollywood actor and director Ron Howard and the celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay.

I've been a guest on the show many times over the years, but this was a particularly enjoyable show to do.

60th Birthday UK Tour

In October I will be embarking on a Solo UK Tour to celebrate my 60th Birthday.

The UK is where it all started for me, so it's going to be great visiting some of the towns I played at the beginning of my career.

If I'm playing in a town near you please come along and say hi! Here's the tour dates...

Night of Jazz Guitar - Germany & Ireland

For any students living in Germany or Ireland I will be playing 6 shows next week with 'Night of Jazz Guitar' alongside Ulf Wakenius, Andreas Dombert & Paolo Morelo. (Tour dates listed below...)

Martin Taylor & Ulf Wakenius in Scotland

Martin was joined by the amazing Swedish jazz guitarist Ulf Wakenius for two shows at the Islay Jazz Festival.

Martin and Ulf have been working together as a duo quite regularly over the past few years in Europe, Scandinavia, and Asia and plan more shows in 2017.

Ulf toured with Oscar Peterson for 10 years and has also worked with jazz greats Herbie Hancock and Pat Metheny.

Louis Stewart (1944-2016)

It is with sadness that we hear of the passing of the great Irish jazz guitarist Louis Stewart.

Louis first came to prominance in the 1960's as a member of the Tubby Hayes Quintet, before joining Ronnie Scott's band and playing regularly at Ronnie's club in London.

In the early 70's he toured Europe with the Benny Goodman Orchestra and also played on several George Shearing albums.

In the mid 80's he toured as a guitar duo with Martin Taylor and they recorded an album together called Acoustic Duets. (Here's a link). His association with Martin Taylor led to him touring alongside Martin with the legendary Stephane Grappelli for one UK tour in 1986.

Louis worked ocassionally in Norway with Norwegian jazz musicians, but laterly rarely strayed too far from his beloved Ireland where he played a regular jazz gig once a week in a Dublin pub.

He was a truly great jazz guitarist who never fully received the recognition his talent deserved, but fortunately his catalogue of recordings will ensure that his music lives on.

Martin first played at the club 38 years ago and has performed there regularly ever since.
