Those infamous Drones are back in tangible existence as a CD... This collection of MP4 tracks sampled at 192k contains drones of 2 tonics an octave apart and a fifth, in just intonation. Each key lasts roughly six minutes and the sequence plays through all the keys in order (the circle of 4ths starting from C).

Darol recently attended the Barcelona Fiddle Congress with fellow Berklee professor and Jazz Violin virtuoso Jason Anick, and when they got back, they immediately went into the studio to talk and play about... all things swing!

It's been a wild summer out here on the road and… ok... it's over!

Before the big Odyssey even started, we had a great trip out to Colorado with The Furies: Emy, Ethan J and Tatiana Hargreaves (interviewed on this site!)….a show at the High Mountain Hay Fever Fester was only one of the highlights. The backstage area was especially nice! this is it.

The new Mr Sun CD will be officially released on Compass Records on July 31!

May has been an eventful month in fiddling already. Plenty of birthdays: mine was the 7, Bobby Britt from Town Mountain was the 8, Alasdair Fraser and Jenna Moynihan have birthdays the 13, Tatiana Hargreaves is on the 14. Also some sad news: the greats Tex Logan and Johnny Gimble died just a few days apart this month. We'll be doing some features on their legacy soon. Meanwhile, see my May Greeting for an interesting angle on one of Tex's most popular tunes.

Summer of 2015 will be a busy time for me; I'll be teaching at a number of fiddle "camps" and clinics all over the continent.

First up was the Yukon Acoustic Music Workshop near Whitehorse, Yukon Territory in Alaska, June 7-11. Had a very nice visit with Janetto, whom you know a student on this site.
