Darol, with the legendary old-time fiddler Bruce Molsky and incredible cellist Rushad Eggleston, will appear at the Freshgrass Festival at the Mas/MOCA museum in remote but friendly North Adams, Massachussetts on Saturday, Sept 22. This festival will feature some legendary names in Bluegrass, such as David Grisman, and... just ... possibly... Tony Rice. We'll be crossing our fingers! Also some great modern "grass such ad the Infamous String Busters, banjo masteress Alison Brown, and celebrated Thrashgrass weedwackers Trampled By Turtles.

Well, the Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival capped off an incredible 2 weeks of very intense fiddling activity. We played there with the Old-Time Kozmik Trio and with a number of excellent Berklee students. I also sat in with my old boss David Grisman, and did a wonderful set with fellow ArtistWorks professors Tony Trischka and Bryan Sutton. Amazing moments abounded: the incredible Hot Rize, Del McCoury Band, the Steeldrivers, the various Berklee groups, and on and on. This after a great week on Mount Shasta with a high-level acoustic music conference led by Tristan and Tashina Clarridge.

This year's version of Mark O'Connor's String Convention is coming up at Berklee in Boston next week. Quite a lineup of amazing string players will be teaching and studying there, I'll be teaching along with Bruce Molsky, Tracy Silverman, Billy Contreras, Rachel Barton Pine, Bobby Hicks, Ben Solee, Angella Ahn, and a pile of other great folks. It's going to be totally off the charts.

Just wanted to let everyone know about the useful Drone CD that I made for getting in tune and generally zoning out with fiddles or whatever. Itcontains drones of 2 tonics an octave apart plus a true (not tempered!) fifth It's a very intense, wonderful sound.  Each drone lasts roughly six minutes and the CD plays through all the keys in order (the circle of 4ths starting from C).
