Bruce Molsky teaches "Soldiers' Joy" Appalachian-style

Check out the Special Guests section on the lower-right side of your Fiddle page!

Reknowned fiddler Bruce Molsky has graced us with a comprehensive 2-part lesson on Soldier's Joy as played by Tommy Jarrell, dealing with the most interesing deatials of the Round Peak fiddle style. Bruce is a great teacher who know exactly what is important and he does an amazing job here. Stay tuned for a complete interview with additional tunes played by Darol and Bruce together.

May was supposed to ease off

Hey folks

A, let's say, "richly textured" May is happening now. Birthdays galore this month.

The Berklee School semester winds up in a massive spasm of finals, make-up lessons, and student performances.

Also, a trip to DelFest with me new band The Furies, featuring Brittany Haas, Emy Phelps and harpist Maeve Gilchrist!

More interviews, lessons, and we're gonna try again on the Chat thing.

I'll let you all know.

OK thanks

New Beginner Lessons and new Jazz Violin Lessons

After a marathon pair of sessions at ArtistWorks Central out in California, we have a nice set of additional Basic tunes focusing on Scales and their accompanying tunes... with pdfs and backup tracks... we are waiting for them to be processed now!

Also, a very compreshensive series of basic Jazz Violin lessons which dovetail nicely right out of some of the advanced Bluegrass concepts we already have up on this site!

This shoudl all happen soon... very excited about this new material.

April is Wild.

April is the wildest month. A sprint to the finish line, with tons of shows interspersed with teaching at Berklee.

Starting with a huge blowout all-star acoustic revue in Denver with some really great Colorado fiddlers ( Katie Glassman, Adam Glodblum, Enion Pelta) a duet show with Emy Phelps in Portsmouth, NH and an amazing concert with banjo genius Ron Cody, cellist Mike Block and singer Heather Masse at One Longfellow Square in Portland, Maine; celebrating Ron's brand new CD of jazz standards... very special. see my concerts page at http://www.darolanger.com

New Interviews coming!

Greetings Fiddlers!

I'll be doing some really exciting interviews with some of the greatest and most influential fiddlers anywhere, this month!

Stay tuned for a long talk and a couple of guest lessons with the inimitable Bruce Molsky, possibly the most influential fiddler in the world today.

Marching around in March

I'll be recording some new lessons at the palatial Artistworks Digs (just kidding!) this month,

then a quick trip to the American String teachers' Convention in Atlanta, GA to represent for AW and Berklee.

Lots of amazing teaching ideas at that conference... maybe I'll try out some new ideas on you guys soon.

Then a Fantasic Festival in Florida: Magnolia SpringFest!  Playing there with the redoubtable Rushad Eggleson and the Emazing Emy Phelps.

Fiddle camps this summer

Hey, time to be thinking about your music camp experience... always an incredible experience which can change your life in so many ways.

I'll be teaching at a few great camps this summer.

One of my favorites is the newish Live Oak Fiddle Camp down in the Texas Hill Country near Austin. A smaller camp, with fantastic food and a startlingly beautiful setting, with indoor sleeping arrangements, this camp is a great and effective way to rocket your playing forward and really connect with some other excellent players. Not recommended for absolute beginners.

Mid-February news from Darol

Hi Folks... I'm answering videos this weekend, playing a LOT of concerts,  and continuing the semester at Berklee College of Music. I just played an incredible concert with the Swedish band Vasen, the most amazing string band on the planet, and a hand-picked (by yours truly) chamber orchestra backing them up. Video appears below for that. I hope...

Also finished a mini-tour of New England celebrating Valentines' Day with the great fiddlers Brittany Haas and Lissa Schneckenburger.
